Main Street Village – Spend the Afternoon in Newport Beach

  |     |   Things to Do

The cozy apartments of Main Street Village are just 20 minutes away from Newport Beach, one of SoCal's hottest spots for outdoor fun. So whether you're into sailing, swimming, surfing, or sticking to reassuring dry land, Newport Beach has plenty of entertaining ways to spend a warm California afternoon.

Balboa Fun Zone

The Balboa Fun Zone, a long-established amusement park on the Balboa Peninsula, is an excellent choice to take the family for an afternoon of fun. Here, kids can ride a Ferris wheel that provides breathtaking views of the Pacific. Adults might be more compelled by a narrated harbor cruise, where guides identify many celebrity homes dotting the waterfront.

The Wedge

If you love to watch high-level surfing action, The Wedge is an absolute must-see. The waves regularly hit 30 feet high, and the current is quite strong in this area, so hopping in the waters of The Wedge isn't recommended for novice surfers or swimmers. However, it's a spectacular option for a picnic on the beach with friends as you enjoy the built-in entertainment.

Crystal Cove State Park

People who prefer to explore on foot will find a lot to like in Crystal Cove State Park. This park contains about 3 miles of coastline but also stretches deep into 2,400 acres of California mainland. You'll find the Historic District on the coast, a quaint collection of 46 restored 1930s and 1940s era seaside cottages available for overnight rentals. However, be aware that these cottages are hugely popular and sell out quickly all year round.

The Beachcomber Cafe

If you manage to snag a night at one of the Historic District's cute cottages, be sure to pair it with an afternoon visit to The Beachcomber Cafe. Built-in one of the restored cottages, this fun spot serves up delicious seafood such as ceviche and calamari, as well as humorously oversized bloody Marys, margaritas, and mojitos.

Fashion Island

For a bit of retail therapy, head to Fashion Island. This beautifully designed outdoor mall contains upscale department stores such as Neiman Marcus and Rebecca Taylor and fine dining at restaurants that include Sushi Roku and Canaletto Ristorante Veneto. The open-air mall is pet-friendly, too, making it a great place to bond with your pup and meet other dog owners.

Newport Beach is a straight shot southwest on CA-55 from the Main Street Village apartments less than 10 miles away. So give Main Street Village a call today, and come home to your dream home near Newport Beach.
