The holidays are a time for giving. Whether it be gifts, money, baked goods, or even your time, the end of the year is notorious for gifting, giving, and everything in between. While it can be tough to find the time and energy during the holidays to donate or volunteer, there are many advantages that come with it! So why not get that warm fuzzy feeling this holiday season by spreading cheer throughout orange county and in your Irvine community with these three volunteer opportunities!

Host a book drive

For the young ones in Irvine, Christmas means gifts from Santa. While some kids might have the newest games or a pony on their wish list, others may just want a book! Sometimes the everyday things we take for granted is something someone else has been dreaming about. This holiday season, you could help the Orange County United Way reach their collection goal of 11,000 books in their 4th annual book drive. There’s a couple of ways you could do this: 1.) Drop off a donation of new or gently used children and teen books, or 2.) Host your very own book drive, and donate what you collected! And if you want to get even more involved, the organization has other festive volunteer opportunities all month long and they are always in pursuit to recruit volunteers.

Help Provide Irvine with Meals on Wheels

Another common holiday luxury that some Irvine community members may not have the resources to enjoy is a nice, warm meal. This time of year, food has a magical way of bringing friends and families together. When you volunteer with Meals on Wheels, you have the opportunity to provide senior Irvine residents with a healthy, hearty meal that they would not have been able to prepare for themselves. There are various ways program volunteers can get involved with Meals on Wheels, such as being a volunteer driver and helping with food distribution throughout orange county and Irvine, or helping to prepare the food for delivery. Either way, you’re helping to spread holiday cheer with the gift of food this season!

Volunteer at Working Wardrobes

If you’re like most of us this time of year, there’s usually a holiday party or two that you might want to get dressed up for. A nice dress, a button-up, maybe some slacks, depending on the occasion. Celebrating 30 years of service, Irvine’s Working Wardrobes helps provide Veterans, underemployed individuals, seniors and formerly incarcerated individuals with employment, or as Working Wardrobes refers to it, the power of a paycheck. So where do you come in? You can get involved with the volunteer program by volunteering as a donation assistant, at a Working Wardrobe special event, or even at the general office! There’s plenty of opportunities, so check them out and see how the power of nice attire can improve the life of a fellow neighbor.

There are various benefits of volunteering your time or donating necessities during the holidays, and organizations are always looking for volunteers. Not only is volunteering a great opportunity to connect with your local community and make a difference in the lives of children and family’s, but you are ultimately giving back to your Irvine neighbors and making a difference this holiday season.
