November is here and that means one thing; the holidays are near! Thanksgiving is just weeks away, followed by black Friday shopping and Christmas tree finding. But one thing that is a sure mark of the holidays being just around the corner is the opening of the Ice Skating Rink at the Irvine Spectrum Center. The ice rink is the perfect remedy to the hustle and bustle of the season, serving as a break from shopping and a festive tradition for friends and families alike.
The rink is open to all ages for public skating Monday through Sunday from 3 – 5:50 p.m., 6 – 8:30 p.m. and 9 – 11 p.m. The Spectrum Center Ice Rink is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, but open for free admission on Black Friday between the hours of midnight and 3:40 a.m.
Tickets and Admission
General admission for the skating rink begins at noon on Black Friday, with tickets available for purchase at the Ice Rink Box Office in Giant Wheel Court. Prices vary by age, ranging from $20 for adults and children (including skate rental) to $16 for toddlers, seniors and Military personnel. Don’t feel like waiting in line once you’re there? (We don’t blame you!) You can jump the line and purchase your tickets online ahead of time for a universal price of $35 a person.
Planning a November birthday party or celebratory event? Maybe a holiday company party? You’re in luck! If you expect to have a large party for the ice skating adventure you can book a group event for $14 per person. In fact, if you plan on having more than 15 people in your group you will have to make a reservation and contact the Ice Rink Box Office ahead of time. You can event rent out the entire ice arena for private parties for just $1,000 an hour.
Although you can get skates, helmets and even socks at the ice rink, be sure to come bundled up for the skating occasion! You could even save a few bucks if you have skates or a helmet at home to bring with you, rather than renting at the rink. And although we might consider 70 degrees to be a bit on the chilly side here in Orange County, you’ll feel like you are in a true winter wonderland once you get onto the ice! With that in mind, be sure to wear a warm jacket, thick socks and maybe even a beanie and gloves to stay warm while you are ice skating.
If you’re like most of us this time of year, you are probably planning on doing some holiday shopping while you’re at Spectrum. No need to worry about where you will leave your recent purchases and gifts for the family, there are lockers available at the Ice Rink to secure all of your fun new finds for a one-time use of less than $1.
What’s better than a good deal and a themed skating session? Not much! That’s why on Thursdays from 6 – 8:30 p.m. if you come dressed in the weekly theme, you’ll receive $5 off your admission price. Some themes you can look forward to in the upcoming weeks include Thursday Night Football Fans on November 14th, Turkey Skate on November 21st and Reindeers & Red Noses on December 5th. Mark your calendars now to save some cash and skate along to the theme!
So if you’re in the mood to skate the stress of the holidays away and have some festive fun, be sure to check out the Ice Rink at the Irvine Spectrum Center and let us know about it on Facebook or Instagram. And keep following our blog here for more Orange County fun.
